For Academics, the Renewable Resource Atlas of Saudi Arabia offers simple maps that show renewable energy resource levels, to support curriculums and special projects for students of all ages.

The Atlas maps can be used in multiple ways, from teaching basic map-reading skills to understanding where renewable energy can provide electricity in the Kingdom.

The detailed data and graphing content of the Atlas can also be useful for creating stimulation projects for students, whether they are in middle school or in their final years of university.

Academics in Riyadh area can also use the Atlas in conjunction with a class trip to the K.A.CARE Mishkat Interactive Center for Atomic and Renewable Energy, for better integration of the visit into a class project. Mishkat brings together engaging and interactive exhibitions, with events and workshops that target the youth of Saudi Arabia.

Atlas datasets of most interest for Academics can include:

Maps of modeled solar resource and wind resource levels across the entire Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, listed as “Background” map layers in the mapping layer tree.
Data from a newly operational network of solar resource monitors around Saudi Arabia, which could include identifying patterns in the data, such as during a recent dust storm. To see such daily level data, a simple log-in process is required to view and download monthly average data immediately. Daily and hourly average data, as well as other data aggregations are avialable through the data download for a fee. Once logged in, this data is listed as RRMM Solar Monitor Measurements in the mapping layer tree and can also be accessed in the graphing tab. By the end of 2015, over 50 stations will be active.
